(Casual dress for the practice, but remember to wear your dancing shoes!)

A swirling room full of dancers in Victorian costume…a table heaped high with sugared desserts…live music to delight the ear…the reunion of old friends…all these wonderful things go into the annual Civil War-era themed Midsummer’s Eve Ball.  Put on your finest clothing, learn a new dance, share a laugh and a smile with friends old and new, and enjoy with us an elegant evening back in time.  We’re looking forward to seeing you!

Antiques Appraisal Fair, Saturday, 3/19/11

Have you ever wondered what some of your antiques are worth? Now is the chance to find out. The South Charleston Heritage Commission is sponsoring an “Antique Appraisal Fair” fundraiser, to be held at the historic South Charleston Opera House on Saturday, March 19, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Antique dealers from around the area will be on hand to look at the items brought in and give an estimate of their worth in today’s market.  A donation of $5 per antique item or $10 for three items is suggested.  For more information, please contact Larry Marple at 937-462-6503.

Date have been announced for the spring play dinner theatres of the Opera House Players. Mark your calendars for April 8th & 9th and 15th & 16th. Those are Friday and Saturday nights.

Singers Invited

The Heritage Commission Corp. invites all singers, male & female, over the age of fourteen, to join this year’s Community Chorus.  The Chorus will rehearse for a six-week period and perform at the 23rd annual Christmas at the Opera House program, Saturday and Sunday, December 11th and 12th.  Rehearsals begin Sunday, October 31st at the South Charleston Methodist Church, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.  No prior experience is necessary.  Please contact Karen Berkhofer with questions, at 937-462-7236.

17th Annual Gingerbread Festival, Sept 26th, ’10

The Heritage Commission Corporation is pleased to host their 17th annual Gingerbread Festival on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the D.T.& I. Depot and Log House Museum, 147 W. Mound St., South Charleston.

Local vendors will be on hand with items for sale. Food will be served, including plenty of homemade gingerbread and our famous bean soup.

A small Civil War encampment will be featured, sponsored by the 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry re-enactors, and horse drawn carriage rides will be given by Willow Wind Carriage Service.

Tours of the c.1820 log settlers house will be given, with cooking demonstrations done over the hearth fire. Live music by the Springfield Dulcimer Society will round out this fun, family-friendly day in the village of South Charleston. Vendors may contact 937-462-7277 for more information about setting up a free booth or table.

Musical entertainment by the Springfield Dulcimer Society, and Elixir (www.elixirsings.com) a trio playing 19th century folk music, reimagined.
